I have been researchnig insurance on jewelry. My homeowners policy seems to be lacking.
Who is a good insurance company. What documentation must I have to get a fair rate and yet be covered in case of a loss?

You can get additional riders for your jewelry on your Homeowner's insurance. If they are expensive or inadequate, you may want to check out Jeweler's Mutual. They are the largest insurance carrier for the Jewelry industry and also offer personal consumer insurance. I have not compared the rates, so I can't comment if they are more or less expensive, but there's one major advantage with them. They require an appraisal for the insurance and if there's ever a loss, they automatically send you back to the jeweler who appraised your item (or where you bought it from if you had an independant appraiser do the appraisal). Most Homeowner's insurance carriers make you get three estimates on replacing and will only go to your jeweler if you insist on it...while giving you a hassle the whole way.
Check it out and hope this helps! :)
