DTC Launches ‘Shining Light Awards’ for Diamond Jewelry

The Diamond Trading Company (DTC), De Beers sales and marketing division, launched a new collection of diamond jewelry, the DTC Shining Light Awards Collection 2006-2007. The DTC Shining Light Awards for Excellence in Diamond Jewellery Design showcase the creativity and talent of designers from around South Africa.

First launched in 1996, the objective has been to provide support for the future of the South African jewelry industry by helping to develop technical and design skills of South African designers as well as an ethos for South African jewelry design, the company said in a release.

Just under 1,000 designs from around South Africa entered the preliminary round of the competition, which theme is “Our Diamond Dreams”, ten of them were selected to make up the new collection.

Third year Tshwane University of Technology Jewellery Design student, Joyce Coetzee was declared Overall Winner of the competition. Her bangle, sponsored by DTC Sightholder Vancut DW (Pty) Ltd / Tache Company NV, was created in 18 karat yellow gold and is set with 668 round brilliant cut diamonds with a total weight of 22.55 carats.

The awards sponsors are Nozala Diamonds, Life Diamonds, Vancut Diamond Works / Tache, Livingstones, Rosyblue / Panda Diamonds, Ascot Diamonds / ABT Diamond Cutting Works, Diamdel South Africa, Zlotowski’s DCW / Chow Tai Fook Group, Ram Hand-to-Hand Couriers, and Ponahalo Capital.
