There is much confusion on what exactly is the difference between a
Princess cut and a radiant cut diamond.

The main difference you see with your eye is that Princess cuts are usually square with pointed corners and the Radiants tend to be rectangular with clipped corners. If you look at the attached diagram, the Radiant and Princess also have different faceting on the pavilion.

Both are classified as Mixed cuts, they share aspects of both brilliant and step cuts: they are meant to combine the weight preservation and dimensions of step cuts with the optical effects of brilliants. Typically the crown is step-cut and the pavilion brilliant-cut. Mixed cuts are all relatively new, with the oldest dating back to the 1960s. They have been extremely successful commercially and continue to gain popularity.

The most popular of the mixed cuts is the Princess cut which was first introduced in 1960 by A. Nagy of London. It was originally intended for flat rough (macles).

The Radiant Cut Diamond was developed and patented in 1977 by Henry Grossbard and it combines the classic elegance of the traditional emerald cut shape with the sparkle of the "brilliant" cut.

Thanks Barry,

We have dealers trying to sell us Modified Cut Corner Princess Cuts as Radiants all the time.

They don't know the difference either.

We carry both but we are into honest disclosure on what we sell..
