H. Stern launches branded diamond cut
National Jeweler-
SEPTEMBER 28, 2006 - New York -- Jeweler H. Stern has introduced the "Stern Star," a new diamond cut to represent the visual signature of the company. Three years in the making, the cut features the design of a star—the symbol of the brand—created by the facets at the top and at the base of each stone.
The diamond's shape is a blend of forms found in naturally shaped pebbles, which, according the company, makes it the first organic diamond created by a jeweler's hand.
Compared with the traditional round-brilliant cut, where the lower part of the stone reflects off 16 carats, the Stern Star has 20 internal facets and a wider table surface. The results are "exceptional, almost kaleidoscopic, hypnotic radiance," said Creative Director Roberto Stern in a statement.
The launch of the new cut comes three years after the company introduced a branded color of gold, "18K Noble Gold," a flesh-tone alloy that retains aspects of both yellow and white gold.
The two design developments come together in a new collection called Stern Star, a line of 21 one-of-a-kind diamond-jewelry pieces featuring white diamonds with the new cut set in the 18K Noble Gold, with black diamonds for contrast. Prices range between $20,000 and $330,000.
The design theme of the collection was inspired by Stern's passion for sculptural staircases and Art Deco architecture.
"The Art Deco period remains so popular since it first appeared in 1925 because it goes with everything, and it matches classic as well as contemporary elements," Stern said. "In luxury goods, the style is associated with refinement and has become a classic."
With this influence, some of the pieces make reference to the futuristic aesthetic of Fritz Lang's classic film Metropolis.
The collection is available in rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
