Distinctive diamond mosaic honors GIA symposium

SEPTEMBER 27, 2006 - Carlsbad, Calif. -- Brazilian diamond dealer Jorge Brusa has donated a commemorative diamond mosaic featuring the logo of the Gemological Institute of America's (GIA) 4th International Gemological Symposium to the institute.

Brusa, who also publishes the Brazilian trade magazine Diamond News, presented the mosaic to GIA's chairwoman of the board, Helene Fortunoff, at a luncheon held on Aug. 28 during the symposium.

Showcasing 5,460 melee diamonds, the mosaic will become part of the GIA Museum's permanent collection. The piece includes 52.5 carats of natural yellow and colorless stones, and 25 carats of treated-color blue and green diamonds. The center diamonds, when exposed to ultraviolet light, fluoresce the letters "GIA."

"We are very pleased to have the 2006 symposium logo preserved by Mr. Brusa in this beautiful gem mosaic," said Alice Keller, symposium co-chairwoman and Gems & Gemology editor in chief, in a statement. "We are in awe of the artistry and skill that went into its preparation."
