Spinel
Red spinel is frequently confused with ruby, even though it's color can equal ruby's red. Many famous spinels in the royal jewels of England and Russia were thought to be rubies. They were called "Balas ruby" until the 1800's. Spinel offers a color ranging from orange to red, pink, and all shades between purple, blue and violet through bluish green.
