Hello Everyone,

I purchased a loose diamond from a friend of mine who is a jeweler. He let me look at any diamond I wanted so I could pick the one I believed looked to be the best in terms of sparkle, color, etc. After reading more and more online, I heard the EGL isn't the best diamond grader. Anyway, the diamond I purchased is graded by the EGL. Anyway, here are the specs on it:

Weight: 0.81 Round Brilliant cut
Measurements: 6.17 x 6.12 x 3.61
Depth: 58.7%
Table: 63%
Crown: 10.4%
Pavilion: 45.3%
Girdle: Thin to Medium
Culet: Very Small
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Clarity Grade: VS2
Color Grade: G
Fluorescence: None
Graded June 18, 2009 in Los Angeles.

I know the EGL is not as conservative as the GIA. However, this diamond to me looked the best out of several that I chose. I know the table is a little bit larger than maybe what it should be, but then again, I didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Just curious on what some of the diamond experts would consider this diamond as I hope I didn't go wrong purchasing this one. Thanks!

EGL USA is a better choice that EGL International. If you have concerns about the diamond you can tell me what town you are in and I can give you the name of a local independant appraiser who can verify the diamond matches the cert.

Most important is if when you look at the ring it is beautiful. It's a diamond ring, it needs to be beautiful first and then a good value.

From the information you posted it looks to mebe a nice diamond. The 63% table is not horrible but it will cause the diamond to leak light affecting brilliance.

Hi Greg,

Thank you for your response. I am in Green Bay, WI. I am having a ring custom made but the diamond is still loose since the ring isn't made yet. I know there are better diamonds out there, however, this one that I chose seem to sparkle the most when compared to others. It is going in a white gold 4 prong setting (2mm wide). I think it will make a nice engagement ring. She wants the wedding band to be a wrap that consists of 2 princess cut diamonds. I am working on it, but need to get the engagement ring done first.

Thanks again for the reply,

Derek

Hi Derek,

Good for you, you hacve figured out what is imoportant when making a jewelry purchase and that is beauty. Don't get me wrong, value is important but if it isn't pretty it does'nt belong on her hand.

Good Luck!

Greg
