I had a Rolex appraised and was told it was a Grade II. How does the grading system for this work? What does this mean?
Is a grade I better? Or is a grade III better?
I am confused, what are the types of grades for a used Rolex?

Who did the appraisal? What did they say when you asked them for clarification as to the grading system they used?
The system I'm most familiar with uses a rating system of G-1 (scrap) to G-10 (100% pristine/mint).

I am familiar with the same quality description as you.

I use this same G-1 to G-10 scale.
The appraiser should have a statement included in their document that explains each of the grading scales that they use. At the very least, they should be able to explain it on the phone if you ring them up and ask.

..since your original question, and I'm still wondering:
What did your appraiser tell you when you asked him/her your questions posed here?

I called the appraiser, he said the information on this grading system is explained in the book "Pre owned Rolex watches, the professionals handbook"

Okay, that's all well and good--but did he explain his grading to you so that you understood it?
Do you have ready access to the book he mentioned?
It would appear that you doubted the appraiser's evaluation because you seem to be asking us for confirmation/condemnation of an examination of a watch the we've never seen nor examined.
It would be incredibly unprofessional and foolish of us to do so based on the extremely limited information you've provided so far. Anything we say would be a shot in the dark coupled with a WAG.
Your concerns are best directed at the person you seem to doubt: the appraiser you referenced in your original post. If all you've gotten so far is a book reference, with nothing more as to explanation, perhaps you should bite the bullet and send the watch to another qualified appraiser to see how that person evaluates it. I know three that have each written books about Rolex; they're not cheap and you'll have to send send the watch to them, but there will be no doubt in your mind as to what's up with your Rolex.

Don't quote me here but, if I remember right the grading has to do with the casing & bracelet. The grading reflects the number of times the watch has been refurbished as, sanding & repolish, rebuffing. This procedure begins to round out the sharpness (design) of the case & bracelet. In high end watches this really makes a difference is appraising and pricing.
