Vitreous enamel is removed from gold or platinum using hydrofluoric acid. It is a very dangerous substance and not recommened to use without due precautions.

Long ago, when dinosours ruled the earth, my trade was art glass, pottery and enamel repair for antique dealers at various shows like Don Scott, Pride of Dixie, Abingdon, blah blah blah.
Here's a bone. Remember precious metals are meleable, whereas fired enamel is not.... ahem. Why won't a benchie size an enameled class ring again? ;)
