I ran across this eBay auction. The appraisals seem odd

What do you think?

They are lab/synthetic stones.. I wouldn't bother.. I mean, why do you need/want an appraisal on a lab stone??

The cost per stone seemed very hgh considering what you were getting. The display pages are nice.

Your right, the "appraisal" is useless. Why would anyone want an appraisal on anything other than a natural stone?

Let's see... $60,000 in appraised value... if you check out his store and appraised values, average about $100 a carat for LAB sapphire (does not say what type of lab process, make's a difference... we will assume flame)... some are SIMULATED, which means can be any material (even glass), but some say they are LAB corrundum (sapphire) @$125 a carat... LAB emeralds at $100 per (hey some of these actually say corrundum!)...etc.

So at best you can get 600 carats. They are probably NOT Russian as I know the owners of the factories (they were in my hospital room just last week...ACL repair)... and would never sell to them, so I think Chinese flame. If you buy wholesale then you can look at about 20 cents max per carat (some as low as 5 cents). So... about $100 worth of stones.

Maybe the paper is worth $1000 ?? :D

If you want quality labs, russian hydrothermals are fabulous especially emeralds... just ask Chatham as they buy also instead of growing.

Their are many Labs producing quality man made stones such as Chatham and Ramura just to name two. These stones have the same chemical properties and atomic structure of Natural Gemstones. Don't confuse these stones with the flame fusion and hydrothermal corundum that is on the market, two different animals. I will say that I know for a fact Tom Chatham produces his own Emeralds and Sapphires. He does not buy pulls or boules from any Mfg. Overseas or Domestic. The stones he produces can not be purchased for $0.20 a carat.

I know for a fact Chatham has bought hydrothermals. And no where did I sat that hydrothermals were 20 cents a carat. Hydro corrundom is more expensive than emerald.
