Can someone help me? I found a nice round diamond at a pawn shop in a town a few hours away. When you look down into the stone it actually has like a STARBURST LOOK. I just wonder if this is from a certain cut? It was so pretty! Nice and sparkly. I have owned a round solitaire before but it didnt have this look to it. THe workers there couldnt help me and i was wondering if anyone here might know what kind of cut that is?
Thanks Pam :o

Hi Pamie,
I know Joe and he was just being a smartass.
Check out some of the diamond shapes at my website www.gregorydiamond.com (http://www.gregorydiamond.com/shapes.htm) and see if it is there.
It is very hard to give any accurate advice as to value without having anything visual to work from.

I'm ALWAYS being a smart ass. :p Just think about my wife.
My wife and I have been together 17 years. Imagine her mental condition from having to deal with ME for the last 17 years. Heh heh heh heh
Just last night, I put snap n' pops under the toilet seat before bed. That way when she got up in the middle of the night to sit down and do her business, "KAPOW."
I apologize Pammie for sometimes I forget my words on a computer screen don't always communicate my "meaning." I was just clowning around when I said "I'll give ya 25 bucks for it", as usual.
I love the customers who come in and say to me, "I'll give yuh.............. for it." I'm thinking, 'You'll GIVE me?' "Look pally, if you GIVE me any money it'll be considered a cheritable gift and I'll thank you for it, because I love to drink cheap beer and eat fine food." Of course, my long term customers would already know I'm just being a clown then too.
Just like Greggypoo said. Without having a visual and a clear image of facet design, number of facets, facet shape and alignment, we can't tell squat.
Many, and I mean MANY of the "princess" cut diamonds we see in stores and online aren't actually Princess cut diamonds at all. The Princess cut diamond has a strict facet design and numbers and it's patented. I don't see nearly as many "princess" cut diamonds out there as there are modified square brilliant cuts yet so many modified square brilliant cuts are called princess cut.
I was a mountain bike mechanic in college. Some customers I'd call "gear heads," who'd have all the gear ratios memorized and specs down and demand everything be to specs, while I'd have other customers, who were just as happy to get on the bike and go mtn biking and be happy as long as I had the gears shifting correctly and the bearings and bushings staying tight.
Where am I going with this you ask? Well there are those of us who are anal, and there are those of us who are laid back. There are those of us who are anal about being laid back too! It's what makes the world go around.
But when it comes to classifying a diamond cut that might be copyrighted, I'm gonna be anal when I see the image, because that's what makes me a competant gemologist and consultant but until then I'm cutting up. Hopefully I've explained enough about where I come from to help you understand I only have good intentions.

You may be looking at an older style cut like a European or Old Mine. Sometimes the facets are so large that it gives a very obvious starburst effect.
While looking straight down at the stone, did you happen to notice what looked like a window in the center of the table? If so that's becasue it has a polished culet which is also an indicator of one of these older makes.
If it's big, bright, relatively clean and you can get a great deal on it, buy it. I like the older cuts.

Keep the humor up Joe! In today's society we all need a good laugh. To bad a lot of people don't see humor anymore.
