The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) announces an
opportunity for national and international gemology students to explore a
career in gems and jewelry appraising. NAJA offers to GIA, FGA, FGAA, FGG,
FCGmA students to attend the 25th Annual Winter Educational Conference
scheduled on January 30-31, 2006 in Tucson AZ. NAJA believes that becoming
a gems and jewelry professional appraiser is a viable career option for
gemological students.

This opportunity gives the gemology student a first hand experience of
networking with appraisal professionals by attending the highly regarded
NAJA educational experience during a time when Tucson devotes itself to
gems, jewelry, and minerals. The scholarship, which covers the conference
fee only, requires a resume, photo and an essay explaining the reason why
the gemology student would choose to become a gems and jewelry appraiser.

Applications can be obtained through the NAJA website,
www.NAJAappraisers.com, or by a faxed request to NAJA headquarters at
718.997.9057. Deadline for submission is November 1, 2005 and the final
selection by the NAJA Scholarship Advisory Board will be announced December
1, 2005.

The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers is the largest membership

GIA Korea, Seoul University Offer Jewelry Master's Degree

(June 22, '05, 3:36 Albert Robinson)

GIA Korea and the University of Seoul have come together to offer a new master?s degree program in which local GIA instructors teach two of the five semesters in the university?s new ?Jewelry Expert Advanced Program.?

Global Education Director Seung-Hae Moon says this is the first time that such a gemological program has been offered anywhere in the world.

In the first semester, students learn the special language of jewelry, product knowledge, and selling techniques through GIA?s Accredited Jewelry Professional (A.J.P.) program.

During the second semester, instructors from GIA?s Jewelry Design program teach the creative and technical skills of designing jewelry, while Seoul University professors cover jewelry computer-aided design (CAD). Students will already have a working portfolio after the second semester.

Over the following three semesters, university professors cover advanced instrumentation, and supervise students? final theses. Seven students enrolled in the initial program, which began in March. A new group of students will begin the program each March.

?We are very excited about this, since this is the first-ever program offered in Korea where GIA?s courses are integrated into the university?s advanced degree program,? said Moon.
